After graduating from NYU and traveling to places like Ghana and Iceland, we asked local herbalist Ashley Noack why she calls Milwaukeehome:
"I’ve had the privilege of encountering all sorts of humans, but when I return to Milwaukee I am embraced by the the most reliable and loyal folks I’ve yet to meet.
The saying ‘work hard, play hard’ is true in many places, but in Milwaukee these words have a more intimate purpose. We make it our duty to do the necessary, often unseen work that demonstrates our ability to provide and care for one another. For our friends, who are our family, we drive through polar vortices to bring each other Colectivo coffee, we insist that the first PBR tall boy be on us, and we keep an extra set of jumper cables around for when the frozen car batteries die…again. We help each other out of kindness, not compensation. We appreciate one another for who we are, not what we do. For the promise of warm food, cold beer, sisterhood (and brotherhood), no matter where I go, I’ll always call Milwaukee home.”
